The Boot Camp faculty members are professional facilitators with extensive backgrounds in health care. They are both experts in pedagogical techniques and also personally knowledgeable about the specific issues facing physicians in today’s health care environment. With many years of experience teaching physicians specifically, they are able to create fully engaging learning environments for participantsensuring that the knowledge gleaned from Boot Camp sessions is accessible, actionable, and aspirational.

WILLIAM T. ALLEN,
M.D., FACP, MHSA
William Allen is a
Senior Healthcare
Executive and Clinician
with The Advisory Board
Company, where he serves
as Senior Director in
the Physician Leadership
Academy. As a faculty member
for the Academies, Dr.
Allen is responsible for
developing curriculum,
teaching classes, and
conducting workshops at
leading hospitals in the
United States. He is
also responsible for
ensuring the quality of
academy presentations
and for coaching and
mentoring Academy
faculty.
Prior to joining The
Advisory Board Company,
Dr. Allen was the
Executive Vice President
for
Clinical Affairs and
Chief Medical Officer at
St. Joseph Mercy
Hospital in Pontiac,
Michigan. He
was the medical director
of the Medical Intensive
Care Unit at St. Joseph
Mercy Health System
(SJMHS) in Ann Arbor,
Michigan where he was in
private practice for
over twenty years. Dr.
Allen has served as
President of the
Department of Internal
Medicine, Chair of the
credentials
committee and member of
the Medical Executive
Committee at SJMHS and
has been a member
of the Board of
Directors.
He has served on the
clinical faculty of the
University of Michigan
Medical School as well
as an
adjunct associate
professor of Executive
Education at the U of M
Business School.
Dr. Allen earned his
undergraduate and
medical degrees at
Michigan State
University. He was a
fellow in pulmonary and
critical care medicine
at the University of
Michigan Medical Center
and received an M.H.S.A
from the U of M School
of Public Health. He is
board certified in
internal
medicine, pulmonolgy,
critical care medicine
and sleep medicine.
R SEAN BENOIT, MD, FACS
Sean Benoit is currently a Director and Faculty Member with the Advisory Board Academies. In that role, Dr. Benoit is responsible for developing curriculum, teaching classes, and conducting workshops at leading hospitals in the United States. He is also responsible for ensuring the quality of academy presentations and for coaching and mentoring Academy faculty.
In addition to his Academies Faculty assignment, Dr. Benoit continues to practice adult and pediatric trauma surgery and serve as a surgical intensivist at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Prior to joining the Advisory Board Company, he held faculty appointments at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Georgetown University Medical Center, Howard University Hospital and maintained a surgical practice.
Dr. Benoit earned his AB from Princeton University, his MD from Howard University College of Medicine, completed a fellowship in Critical Care/Trauma at the University of Maryland, and research fellowships at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the University of Arkansas. He is board certified in General Surgery as well as Critical Care and Trauma Surgery.
WILLIAM E. BURKE, PA-C, MBA
Bill Burke current serves as a Director and Faculty Member of the Advisory Board Academies. He brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise from his experiences across different aspects of the health care industry. He has worked in both the private and public sector, was appointed a Faculty Lecturer at Harvard Medical School for first year medical students, and has over twenty-five years of clinical practice experience in neurosurgery, neuro-trauma, emergency medicine, urgent care, and surgical subspecialties.
Prior to joining the Advisory Board Company, Mr. Burke led the clinical and operational effectiveness practice group at GE Healthcare, a consulting services firm with offices in the U.S. and abroad. He also served as the director of neurosurgery services at Washington Hospital Center in Washington DC, as well as the director of emergency, specialty, and acute care services at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, New England Service Network.
Mr. Burke received his Physicians Assistant Certificate from The George Washington University in Washington, DC. He earned his Masters in Business Administration from the Sawyer School of Management at Suffolk University in Boston, MA, and his B.S. from The George Washington University. He is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistants for primary care and general surgery.

Joe
Corcoran currently

United States. He is

Obstetrics & Gynecology,
holds an Active license
to practice in Florida
and has over a dozen
years experience in
private practice.
During his clinical
career, Dr. Corcoran
served the medical staff
in various leadership
positions including
Chair of the Quality
Improvement Committee,
Chair of Obstetrics &
Women’s Services and
Vice Chief of Staff. He
is a Clinical Assistant
Professor of Obstetrics
& Gynecology and was
elected President of his
county’s 600-member
Medical Society. He was
the Director of Medical
Education for a 400-bed
hospital system and
recently earned a
Master’s degree from the
University of Florida’s
Warrington College of
Business with a focus in
Entrepreneurship &
Innovation.
WILLIAM LYNAGH, M.D.
Dr. Lynagh is currently a Senior Director of the Advisory Board Academies. In that role, he has presented best practices research, facilitated case study sessions, conducted skills and performance assessments, and moderated leadership development exercises for physicians and physician leaders at over 100 health care institutions across the country.
Prior to joining the Advisory Board Company, Dr. Lynagh was founder and president of the Center for Holistic Leadership, a consulting firm that provides leadership development services with an emphasis on strategic planning, coaching, and team development. Clients included non-profit and for-profit organizations, foundations, and businesses including American Express and the University of North Carolina. Dr. Lynagh also served as the Vice President for Medical Affairs and Senior Medical Director at UnitedHealthcare of North Carolina and the Piedmont Healthcare Alliance. Prior to serving in leadership roles, he was a practicing physician in family medicine.
Dr. Lynagh received his medical doctorate at the University of Maryland Medical School in Baltimore, Maryland and completed his residency at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida. He is board-certified in family medicine.

of Virginia, where he
helped develop the
Governor's mental health
reform agenda and
implement Medicaid cost
savings initiatives. He
has held health policy
leadership positions at
the Virginia Hospital
and Health Care
Association, the
Virginia General
Assembly, and the US
Department of Veteran's
Affairs.
CHARLES A. (TERRY) NICHOLS, MA
Terry Nichols is a Director and Faculty Member of the Advisory Board’s Academies. He has facilitated leadership development sessions with a broad range of audiences and participant types and now focuses exclusively on developing physician leaders.
Prior to joining the Advisory Board, he was a research associate at Harvard Business School, assisting professors with teaching on general business management topics and business ethics. He has also worked as a senior associate at the Booz Allen Hamilton Center for Performance Excellence, leading professional development programs on leadership, project management, and core business skills. He also served as senior manager to the Insurance Audit Practice at Ernst and Young to develop and deliver accounting seminars to clients.
Mr. Nichols received his M.A., graduate fellowship in ethics and the professions, as well as his B.A. from Harvard University. He also holds a B.S. in Business and Accounting from the University of the State of New York and has qualified as a Certified Public Accountant.
MICHAEL WAGNER, MPA
Mr. Wagner is currently Chief Teaching Officer in the Advisory Board Academies, helping to improve the management skills and maximize the leadership abilities of physicians, nurses, and other hospital leaders. In that role, Mr. Wagner is responsible for developing curriculum, teaching classes, and conducting workshops at leading hospitals across the United States. He has presented research findings, moderated case study discussions, and conducted workshops for more than 600 health care organizations, professional associations, government agencies, the United States armed forces, insurance firms, pharmaceutical companies, and medical device manufacturers.
Prior to joining the Advisory Board Company, Mr. Wagner held multiple legislative offices in state government, including four terms in the South Dakota House of Representatives. Mr. Wagner has also served as an affiliate Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity, as well as developed and taught college-level business management curriculum at Kilian Community College.
He holds a Masters of Public Administration from Harvard University and received distinctions as a Bush Foundation Leadership Fellow as well as a Lucius N. Littauer Fellow.
